The Fast and The Furriest
The Fast and The Furriest is an annual community event organized by Rochester Animal Services and the Verona Street Animal Society. Held at Brown Square Park in Rochester, the event supports animal welfare initiatives, including medical care, pet adoption, and spay/neuter programs. The event features multiple athletic distances and a pet festival.
Participants can choose from several event distances:
- 10 km race
- 5 km race
- 1 km Furry Scurry Kids Race
- 1 mile dog walk
The race routes lead through the City of Rochester and include a scenic section along the Genesee River. The 10 km and 5 km races are timed events, with awards provided for the overall top three male and female finishers, as well as the top Masters finishers in various age categories ranging from 19 and under to 70 and over.
The pet festival includes live music, food trucks, and pet contests. A free vaccination clinic offering rabies and DAPP vaccines and microchipping is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants have the option to compete in person or join virtually for the 5 km, 10 km, and dog walk categories. T-shirts are provided to those who register by the specified late-May guarantee date. Free parking is available for participants at the Kodak / Carestream Lot D. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
