Fan Fawr

The Fan Fawr fell race is a short, steep mountain event on the A470 Merthyr-Brecon road. The course distance is 3.2 km / 2 mi with a total climb of 305 m / 1001 ft. The start location is the lay-by opposite the Storey Arms, LD3 8NL (grid reference SO983204).

The route is classified AS and requires experience, local knowledge, and navigational skills. Minimum age for entry is over 16. Junior races are to be confirmed. The event is insured by the Welsh Fell Runners Association.

Practical details are limited. Entry is on the day only for a fee of £2. There are no safety pins provided. Public toilets are located about 0.5 miles south on the A470. Recorded best times for the course are 16:02 for the male record and 19:16 for the female record, both from 1991.
