Falmouth Sprint Triathlon
The Falmouth Sprint Triathlon is a USAT sanctioned event held at Surf Drive Beach in Falmouth, Massachusetts. The race is the 33rd edition and is presented as a multi category triathlon with Sprint and Olympic distance options, aquabike, relay teams, para triathlon divisions, and a virtual category.
The swim takes place in warm salt water from a sandy beach and follows the shoreline, never more than 50 yards offshore. Water temperatures have historically not dropped below 72 degrees and have not required a wetsuit ban. Town of Falmouth lifeguards provide water safety.
The bike course alternates flat and moderately hilly sections, passes the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the village of Woods Hole, and includes a short climb to Nobska Lighthouse before three miles of downhill or flat road toward the finish. The run is a flat 3.2 mile course on well paved roads with views of Falmouth Harbor and Vineyard Sound and includes two aid stations offering water and fluid replacement drink. Motor vehicle traffic is sharply limited by Falmouth Police.
Additional event details include USAT membership or one day license requirements, results that count toward national and regional rankings, qualification criteria for USA Triathlon Sprint National Championships, strict parking controls near the venue, and a rule that bicycles may not leave transition until all bikes are off course for insurance reasons.
