The Distances
Participants can choose between two distances.
- Trail Marathon (42.2 km)
- Trail Half Marathon (21 km)
There is also a combined option called The Bruce Deuce, which involves running the full marathon on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday. Finishers of this option receive two medals and an additional race souvenir.
The Course and Event
The event takes place in Eugenia, Ontario, Canada, starting at the Beaver Valley Ski Club. The courses primarily follow the Beaver Valley section of the Bruce Trail, including the Falling Water section that gives the race its name. The course features technical terrain with roots, rocks, and significant elevation. The marathon has approximately 1600 meters of elevation gain, and the half marathon has close to 1000 meters. Runners will pass waterfalls, such as Eugenia Falls, and experience spectacular views.
The organization notes that these courses are not for beginners and require prior trail running experience. Runners must understand how to follow Bruce Trail blazes (white and blue markings). The races are cup-less: each participant must carry their own reusable bottle or collapsible cup.
Practical Information
The event is capped at 100 participants per distance. Twenty dollars from each registration is donated to the Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club. A refund policy offers a race credit up to 30 days before the event. This year, a race shirt will be provided, and snacks will be available at the finish line.
