Falcon Crest Winter Trail Challenge
The event is a winter trail run held at the Falcon Crest Parking Lot / Monte Vista Trailhead in El Dorado Hills, California. Routes use predominantly single-track trails that run alongside Folsom Lake and pass through oak trees and grassy areas with both shaded and exposed sections.
Distances offered:
- 5K
- 10K
- 15K
- Half Marathon
- 30K
- Trail Marathon
Course surface is mostly dirt and rock with minimal pavement. The terrain features rolling hills with frequent ups and downs and some technical sections. There is a creek crossing on the course where rocks can be slippery and may result in wet feet. Courses are marked with ribbons, signs, and gypsum.
Aid stations are placed on course at named locations such as Salmon Falls and Old Salmon Falls; most aid stations are encountered twice on out-and-back routes. Drop bags can be checked for specific aid stations and will be delivered to stations on race morning. Portable toilets are available at the start/finish and at several points on course. Parking is available at the Falcon Crest gravel lot without a fee; additional parking options exist nearby with day-use fees and limited spaces.
An overall time limit applies and specific time limits are set for each distance. Medals are awarded to finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
