Fairgrounds 5k, Mile & Market
This event is a day of organized races held at the Cumberland Fairgrounds in Cumberland Center, ME, alongside a farmer’s market and live music. Races take place on and around the fairgrounds, with several races using the horse track.
Distances featured include:
- 1 mile (Elite, Open and Youth)
- 3.1 miles (5k) (open course finishing on the horse track)

The mile races are run as two laps on the horse track and are sanctioned as the USATF Maine Mile Championship. Current USATF members in youth and masters categories may be eligible for additional hardware in those championship events. The kids gallop is staged in front of the grandstand.
Registration fees vary by event. The organizer states that the event is run by volunteers and that registration benefits local nonprofit organizations. Named beneficiary organizations include MOFGA, Cumberland County 4H Leader's Association and Valor Youth Program.
Runners and walkers of youth and adult ages can participate in the open 5k. The event references a long history of horse racing at the Cumberland Fairground track, noting 155 years of activity at the venue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
