Fabulous Fahnestock Trail Races : event description
The Fabulous Fahnestock Trail Races take place in Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park, a 14,000-acre park spanning Putnam and Dutchess counties. The event offers multiple distances:
- 50K
- 25K
- 5.5 Miler
Courses traverse varied terrain including hemlock gorges, bald ridge hilltops, second-growth hardwood forest, mountain laurel thickets, lakes, ponds and streams. Trail surfaces include runnable doubletrack, winding singletrack, technical ascents and descents, farm trails, old dirt roads and abandoned rail beds. Runners encounter long climbs, flowy descents and lakeside sections with hilltop views and pastoral vistas.
The race begins and ends at the Taconic Outdoor Education Center, where participants can recover near a pond after finishing. On-course support includes multiple full-service aid stations and course marshals. Registration packages include on-course hydration and food, a post-race meal, event swag when available, and on-site parking. The event advertises generous cutoffs and allows dropping from the 50K to the 25K, with any price difference non-refundable; upgrades require organizer approval.
