Exclamation 5.0

Overview

EXCLAMATION 5.0 is a Last Runner Standing event held in Roxton, Texas. The course is laid out so each loop forms an exclamation mark: the dot is the start/finish location and each repeatable unit, called an Exclamation, is a 5-mile out-and-back. Runners have one hour to complete each Exclamation, and new Exclamations begin on an hourly schedule. The Lone Wolf winner receives 20% of registration fees. Separate awards recognize the most Exclamations by younger runners and by runners aged 55 and over.

Location and course

The start and finish are at the Chaparral Museum, across from the Roxton Community Center, address 104 Harrison Ave., Roxton, TX 75477. The course follows a re-purposed track and includes railroad ties alongside parts of the route. The nearest larger towns are more than 20 minutes away; a restaurant and grocery store are across the street from the venue.

Rules, aid and logistics

The race proceeds in rain or shine except during thunder or lightning. Aid stations offer limited snacks: water, soda, Hyperlyte, chips, candy, and fruit; runners are advised to carry personal fuel and hydration. Pacers, pets, crew, and family are allowed but must follow event rules; no assistance is allowed during an Exclamation, only at the start/finish area. Additional rules include a signed liability waiver, leave-no-trace requirements, available restrooms at the museum, and quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Recommended gear includes a small vest or handheld bottle, headlamp, sun protection, mosquito spray, rain gear, and a cell phone for emergencies.
