About the race
EXCLAMATION 5.0 is an endurance event held in Farmersville, Texas, where the course layout forms a literal exclamation mark. The dot at the start/finish and five mile out-and-back segments define each EXCLAMATION, or "X." Each X is a timed, 5 mile out-and-back that begins on the hour, and runners repeat X attempts until one runner remains. Awards and categories include a Last Runner Standing prize that awards 25 percent of registrations, a prize for the fastest fifth EXCLAMATION (25 miles), an under 21 category with parental waiver requirements for minors, and a Master class for runners 55 and older. Parking is available in public lots behind City Hall and along Farmersville Parkway; several private and event lots are restricted and enforced. Aid stations provide limited snacks and drinks; participants are advised to carry their own fuel and hydration. Organizers describe the course as faster paced and recommend gear such as a small vest or handheld bottle, headlamp, rain gear, and sunscreen. Trail etiquette, no trace principles, and rules about no aid during an X are enforced.
