Every Step Counts Autism Walk & 5K Run
The Autism Society of Maryland hosts Every Step Counts on October 3, 2026, at Centennial Park in Ellicott City, MD. The event combines a timed running event, walks and family-oriented activities to raise funds for local programs and services. The fundraising goal for the event is $120,000; proceeds will support AUSOM’s free programs and services, including support groups, education, advocacy, social events, and information and referral services.
Event distances include:
- 5K Run (timed; awards for male, female and nonbinary finishers)
- 4K Walk around Centennial Lake
- 1K Stroll for a shorter walk option
The event village will feature sponsors, exhibitors and vendors alongside family-friendly attractions such as an inflatable obstacle course, roving performers, face painters, bubble artists and costumed characters. Kids 10 and under may participate free with registration required to receive a t-shirt. Registration opens May 29, 2026 and closes October 2, 2026; standard fees are $35 for the 5K and $25 for the 4K and 1K.
Organizers note that the format may be converted to an all-virtual event if necessary. The hosting organization expanded its service area in 2023 to include Montgomery and Anne Arundel counties and continues to focus on increasing access to autism-related resources across Maryland.
