Estes Park's Backyard Ultra
Estes Park's Backyard Ultra is held near Lake Estes in Estes Park, Colorado, at 380 Community Dr. The event benefits Childcare and Family Services in Estes Park and takes place on a paved bike trail around Lake Estes.
The backyard ultra format requires runners to complete a set loop within a fixed hour period each lap until a single runner remains as the event finisher and all others are recorded as DNF. Standard backyard laps measure 4.167 miles, but at this venue each lap is 4.252 miles because of the course layout.
Course details include a per-lap elevation gain of 150 feet and a listed elevation of 7,522 feet. The route is paved and runs around Lake Estes. Organizers start the course clockwise and change direction every 12 hours.
Participant amenities include a custom Fractel hat for all entrants, a stocked aid station, up to a 10x10 space in the athlete village, and a special DNF or finisher award. The event description notes an emphasis on the lake views and the community support aspect through the beneficiary organization. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
