Rocky Mountain Half Marathon
The Rocky Mountain event in Estes Park, Colorado includes a half marathon and a 5K held on a paved loop course near Rocky Mountain National Park. Races take place over the weekend of August 6-7, 2027 and use the fairgrounds and Lake Estes area for start, finish, and course routing.
The half marathon is a counterclockwise loop around Lake Estes with a short out-and-back on Mall Road. The route crosses Big Thompson Avenue through a tunnel, then climbs steadily up Dry Gulch for about three miles. Runners descend through Devil’s Gulch into rolling terrain, follow a flat section on MacGregor Avenue, and run winding stretches through Wonderview and Steamer Parkway before returning to the lake for a final loop. The half marathon features five aid stations and is run on paved roads.
The 5K follows a counterclockwise perimeter of Lake Estes with an early steep climb, a brief downhill, then mostly flat roads and a slight incline near two miles. Expo and bib pickup are staged at Stanley Park Ball Field in Estes Park with options for pickup at the expo, limited morning pickup, or shipped bibs for a fee. Event parking is organized into three designated lots near the fairgrounds; a drop-off area is accessed from Manford Avenue.
Event services include finisher medals for all, place medals by age group, a cup-free reusable-cup hydration policy at self-serve aid stations, race photos by FinisherPix, and online results. The Elk Double option pairs the 5K and half marathon using a single bib and awards two finisher medals plus an additional Elk Double medal and special swag.
