Rocky Mountain Half Marathon in Estes Park
The event weekend in Estes Park, Colorado includes a half marathon and a 5K held near the fairgrounds and Lake Estes, just outside Rocky Mountain National Park. The race expo is at Stanley Park Ball Field in Estes Park.
The half marathon follows a paved loop around Lake Estes with a short out-and-back on Mall Road. The course crosses under Big Thompson Avenue, climbs steadily up Dry Gulch for about three miles, then moves through rolling downhill terrain on Devil’s Gulch. Runners continue on MacGregor Avenue and twist through Wonderview and Steamer Parkway before returning to Big Thompson and finishing with a loop around the lake. The half marathon lists multiple aid stations and an on-course, cup free hydration system that supports reusable cups or personal hydration devices. A four hour time limit applies for the half marathon.
Practical details include three designated parking areas near the fairgrounds (Ball Fields; High School and Observatory; Fairgrounds) and a marked runner drop off area accessed from Manford Avenue. Place medals are awarded to top finishers overall and in age groups, and finisher medals are given to everyone who completes their race.
The weekend also offers an Elk Double option combining the 5K and the half marathon on consecutive days, using a single race bib and additional Elk Double swag and medals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
