Escarpment Trail Run 30K
The Escarpment Trail Run 30K on Sunday, July 26, 2026 is a 30 km (18.6 miles) mountain trail race in the northern Catskill Mountains. The course features roughly 4,800 ft of climb and about 4,400 ft of descent, and has a six hour cut off. The event starts at Elm Ridge Parking Lot, Windham, NY and finishes at North/South Lake, Haines Falls, NY.
The route follows a remote singletrack hiking trail with steep climbs, technical descents, extensive rock and root navigation, hand-over-fist scrambling in places, and sections along cliffs. The course traverses two Catskills High Peaks and a third peak near 3,400 ft. There are no road crossings and aid must be carried in by volunteers, so participants are expected to be self-sufficient on the trail.
Because of trail and land management restrictions the race uses a wave start system with about 15 runners released every five minutes. There are seven aid stations located at approximately 3.5, 6.2, 8.7, 9.6, 12.2, 14.4 and 16.2 miles; each station carries a limited supply of water, electrolyte drink, snacks, and menstrual products. Hard cut-off times apply at three aid stations and runners must maintain roughly 19:21 per mile pace to finish within six hours. Entry requires meeting qualifying standards and entrants must be at least 18 years old.
A virtual option exists where participants must still complete the true course within a multiweek window and remain fully self-sufficient. There are no traditional awards or age group medals; repeated finishes earn milestone shirts for cumulative mileage. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
