Escape the Cape Triathlon
The Stampone O'Brien Dilsheimer Holloway Escape the Cape Triathlon is held in Lower Township, New Jersey. The event uses the Cape May-Lewes Ferry for a boat jump start, including a 12 ft jump from the vessel, and swimmers finish on the beach near the Douglas Park Jetty. The Open Water Classic one mile swim is included in the 2026 program.
The weekend program includes Olympic and Sprint triathlon distances, aquabike divisions, and relay options. The bike course runs on closed roads through vineyards and back country roads of Cape May. The run course includes sandy sections. The swim course is presented by XTERRA Wetsuits.
Distances:
- Open Water Classic: 1 mile swim
- Olympic: 1 mile swim, 23 mile bike, 5 mile run
- Sprint: 0.35 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 5 km run
Registration packages include a custom finisher medal, a long sleeve tech competitor shirt, real time race results, live tracking via the DelMo Elite Events mobile app, and a post race athlete breakfast buffet. Athlete packets contain a race bib, silicone swim cap, timing chip, sticker sheet, and a wristband. Athlete check in on the day before the race is mandatory. The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned and the minimum age for main multisport events is 12 years. Wetsuit rules depend on water temperature and may affect award eligibility.
