Emily Schindler Memorial Scholarship Triathlon

The 20th annual Emily Schindler Memorial Scholarship Triathlon takes place in Severna Park, Maryland. This recreational event is organized by the Severna Park Swimming Association to benefit a scholarship fund for college-bound swimmers. The triathlon is held at the Severna Park Community Center and utilizes local outdoor trails for the cycling and running portions.

Participants can choose to enter the event as individuals or as part of a relay team consisting of two or three people. The sprint distance consists of three consecutive legs:

  • 800 yard swim
  • 9 mile bike ride
  • 3 mile run

The swimming portion is held in the Severna Park Community Center indoor pool. Both the cycling and running legs are contested on the B&A Trail, starting at Cypress Creek Road. Safety regulations on the B&A Trail require all participants to adhere to a 15 mph speed limit during the bike leg; exceeding this limit results in disqualification.

The event focuses on the recreational experience. While the swim, run, and transition times are recorded and posted, the cycling portion is not timed to ensure all participants follow the trail speed limits. Awards are provided for first-place finishers in various gender and age groups for both individuals and teams, and results are published online following the conclusion of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
