Embrace the Race 5K : West Des Moines, 2026
Embrace the Race 5K promotes health equity, cultural awareness, and community unity. The event is presented as an inclusive movement where people of all abilities, socio-economic backgrounds, and cultures can participate together. Organizers will not record finish times to emphasize participation and accessibility.
The course at Raccoon River offers accessible parking and trails that accommodate strollers, wheelchairs, bikes, and other mobility modalities. The park area also includes an inclusive playground and a dog park adjacent to the trail. The event will highlight organizations focused on inclusion, health equity, and unity, and provide space for reflection on personal and shared experiences.
Race packet pick up is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17 at Fleet Feet Des Moines, 521 E Locust St. Participants registered by the end of day June 1 will receive a packet that includes a t shirt, an age appropriate book featuring a diverse author or topic, educational materials that support cultural awareness, an inclusive race bib, and items from sponsors. Registration after June 1 will not guarantee a t shirt or book.
The event will conclude with a judgement free dance party and a DJ playing a curated playlist intended to support a positive, socially conscious atmosphere. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
