Embrace the Pace

Embrace the Pace is an inclusive community running event organized by Connecting for Kids with partners and sponsors. The event at Liberty Playground in Independence, Ohio includes multiple distances and a kids' program that accommodates a range of mobility needs.

The program features a chip-timed 5K and a one-mile run/walk/roll, plus kids' race heats that include categories for children who use wheelchairs, walkers, gait trainers, reciprocating gait orthoses or other mobility aids. Registrations for the 5K and one-mile include a donation to the City of Independence to purchase adapted playground equipment; remaining proceeds support Connecting for Kids free family programs.

Packet pickup is held at the Kiwanis Pavilion at Liberty Playground with an early pickup option the day before and pickup on the day of the event. Runners receive finisher medals, a t-shirt and a draw-string bag for the 5K and one-mile distances. The 5K offers top male and female awards and age group prizes.

Event amenities include resource tables with partners and sponsors, a mobile sensory unit, an adult changing table and accessible parking. An inclusive after-race dance party and hot dogs are part of the post-event activities. Dogs are permitted on site but must remain on a leash at all times.
