Emancipation Day TIMED Run/Walk 2026
The event is organized by BLM In this TOGETHER and takes place on August 22, 2026 at 10 Cherry Brook Road, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is intended to honour Emancipation Day and to acknowledge that slavery existed in what is now Canada. The event focuses on raising awareness of anti-Black racism past and present and on the effects of those histories on social determinants of health for people of African ancestry.
This is a timed run/walk over a distance of 5 km with start and finish at the Black Cultural Centre at 10 Cherry Brook Road. The course is a measured out and back route: leave the Black Cultural Centre, turn left up Cherry Brook Road to the T junction, turn left onto Cherry Brook Road and proceed to Loon Lake Road, turn right on Loon Lake Road to the turnaround point, then return along Loon Lake Road and Cherry Brook Road to the Black Cultural Centre.
The 5 km participation is listed as free of charge. Race or walk kits are available for pickup at the Black Cultural Centre. T shirts are available for sale on site at prices shown between $10.00 and $25.00 and are not included in the race kit. A community collaboration activity is scheduled to follow the race and walk.
