Emancipation Day TIMED Run/Walk 2026
The event is organized by BLM In This TOGETHER in Cherry Brook, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on August 22, 2026 to mark Emancipation Day and raise awareness about anti-Black racism and its effects on social determinants of health. The organizers acknowledge that slavery existed in what is now Canada and present the run/walk as a way to recognize the past, take action, and improve conditions.
The format is a timed 5K run/walk with start and finish at the Black Cultural Centre at 10 Cherry Brook Road. The course follows Cherry Brook Road to a T junction, continues on Cherry Brook Road to Loon Lake Road, turns right onto Loon Lake Road to a turnaround point, and returns along Loon Lake Road and Cherry Brook Road to the Black Cultural Centre. Race and walk kits are available for pickup at the same location prior to the event. Event t-shirts will be sold onsite for prices listed between $10 and $25; shirts are not included in the race kit.
The 5K entry is listed as free. A community collaboration is scheduled after the run/walk. The organizer statement explains a mission to educate about and address inequality, police and systemic racism, and the health impacts experienced by people of African ancestry.
