Emancipation Day TIMED Run/Walk 2026
The event is scheduled for August 22, 2026 at 10 Cherry Brook Road, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, with the Black Cultural Centre serving as the start and finish location. It is a timed run/walk listed at 5 km and that distance is offered at no cost.
The course leaves the Black Cultural Centre, turns left onto Cherry Brook Road to the T junction, continues on Cherry Brook Road to Loon Lake Road, turns right onto Loon Lake Road to a turnaround point, and returns along Loon Lake Road and Cherry Brook Road back to the Black Cultural Centre. Race/walk kit pick up is available on site before the event and a community collaboration is planned following the run/walk.
Organized by BLM In This TOGETHER, a group formed on July 11, 2020 in Cherry Brook, the event is presented as part of efforts to acknowledge that slavery existed in what is now Canada and to address ongoing anti Black racism. The stated purpose includes educating participants and highlighting how such experiences affect the social determinants of health for people of African ancestry.
