Emancipation Day TIMED Run/Walk 2026
Organized by BLM - In This TOGETHER, the event takes place on August 22, 2026 at 10 Cherry Brook Road, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, with start and finish at the Black Cultural Centre. It is presented as a way to honour Emancipation Day (August 1) and to acknowledge that slavery existed in what is now Canada.
The event aims to raise awareness about anti-Black racism and to educate about the effects of slavery on the social determinants of health for people of African ancestry. The organizer states a focus on acknowledging past harms, taking action, and working to improve current conditions.
The measured course leaves the Black Cultural Centre, turns left up Cherry Brook Road to a T junction, turns left onto Cherry Brook Road and proceeds to Loon Lake Road, turns right on Loon Lake Road to a turnaround point, then returns along Loon Lake Road, turns left onto Cherry Brook Road and follows it back to the Black Cultural Centre.
This is a timed 5 km run/walk. The 5K entry is listed as free. Race/walk kit pick up is at the Black Cultural Centre. T-shirts are available for sale onsite from $10.00 to $25.00 and are not included in the race kit. A community collaboration takes place after the race/walk.
