Emancipation Day TIMED Run/Walk 2026
This event takes place on August 22, 2026 at 10 Cherry Brook Road, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It is organized by BLM - In This TOGETHER and uses the Black Cultural Centre as the start and finish location.
The event aims to honour Emancipation Day and to acknowledge that slavery existed in what is now Canada. The organizers emphasize raising awareness about ongoing anti-Black racism, educating about the history of slavery, and examining its effects on the social determinants of health for people of African ancestry. The stated approach is to acknowledge, act, and ameliorate.
The format is a timed 5K run and walk with no cost for the 5K distance. The measured route starts and finishes at the Black Cultural Centre, follows Cherry Brook Road to a T junction, continues on Cherry Brook Road to Loon Lake Road, turns right onto Loon Lake Road to a turnaround point, then returns along Loon Lake Road and Cherry Brook Road back to the Black Cultural Centre.
Race/walk kit pick up is available at the Black Cultural Centre. T-shirts will be available for sale on site, priced between $10.00 and $25.00, and are not included in the race kit.
