Event Overview
The Ellen Reavis Race for Autism is a community event held in Albuquerque at Balloon Fiesta Park. Organized by the New Mexico Autism Society, this annual fundraiser takes place during Autism Acceptance month to celebrate the autistic community and their families. The event honors the memory of Ellen Reavis, a dedicated Occupational Therapist and former board member who spent years supporting individuals with autism in New Mexico.
The event offers several participation options to accommodate various interests and abilities:
- 5k Run: A chip-timed race where participants receive a finisher medal and a shirt.
- 1 mile Walk: An untimed walk for individuals who prefer a non-competitive pace.
- Star Walk: A short walk specifically for autistic individuals to be celebrated by the crowd.
- 1 Mile Walk for Kids: A specific category open to children ages 4-17.
- Virtual 5k Run/Walk: An option for remote participation.
Competition and Prizes
Participants can compete as individuals or form teams. A team t-shirt contest is held where groups can submit custom designs for judging at the main stage. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the 5k Run, as well as to the top fundraiser and the largest registered team. Participants who register by March 15th are guaranteed an event shirt and, for those in the 5k, a finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
