El Trote De Las Calacas
El Trote De Las Calacas is a cultural festival and a USTF certified 5K race and walk held in Elgin, Illinois. The event honors Day of the Dead traditions through live music, food, dancing catrinas, performers and a cultural marketplace. In 2025 the event drew over 1,000 attendees.
The course begins at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, IL 60120. The event is presented by the Gail Borden Public Library District Foundation and the U-46 Educational Foundation and is co-sponsored by the City of Elgin. Fundraising from the event supports two child-focused 501(c)(3) nonprofits.
This is the third annual edition of the race and festival in 2026. The program combines a certified community road race with on-site cultural activities and a marketplace, providing both a timed 5K option and opportunities for community participation in the festival components.
