El Grito 5k - Denver (September 13, 2026)
El Grito 5k is a community 3.1 mile run/walk held within the Auraria Campus in Denver. The course consists of three loops and starts and finishes at the lawn by the Jordan Student Success Building. The event is presented as a celebration of Mexican Independence Day and has been held as an annual tradition since its founding in 1994; the 2026 edition is described as the 31st.
Race offerings and fees include:
- Kids Fun Run (10 and under): free, no t-shirt
- 14 and under: free, no t-shirt
- Regular 5k: $30 if registered by Sept 4; includes t-shirt, bib, burrito, beverage
- Student rate: $20 includes same items
- Raceday registration: $35
Day of registration will be available and same-day registration details will be shared. Check-in and bib pick-up procedures will be different for 2026 and details will be posted. Hydration drinks and beer will be available for runners; proof of being 21 or older is required to receive alcohol.
The event supports the Auraria campus and Metro Denver communities through scholarships for students involved in cross country and track programs. Vendor registration and sponsorship opportunities are offered; vendor registration includes two race entries, parking for one vehicle, and space in the post race area.
