El Grito 5k - Denver
El Grito 5k is an annual community running and walking event held Sunday, September 13, 2026, in celebration of Mexican Independence Day. The event supports the Auraria campus and the greater Metro Denver community by providing scholarships for students involved in cross country and track programs.
The 5k course is contained entirely within the Auraria Campus and is organized as three loops. The event starts and finishes on the lawn by the Jordan Student Success Building. Parking on the Auraria Campus can be limited and a campus map is provided for guidance.
Distances and youth options
- 5k (3.1 miles)
- Kids Fun Run, age 10 and under, free, no t-shirt
- Youth category, age 14 and under, free, no t-shirt
Registration details include a regular rate of $30 if completed by September 4, 2026; that registration includes a Tarahumara/Raramuri inspired t-shirt, race bib, a burrito, and a beer or hydration beverage. Student registration is $20 with the same inclusions. Race day registration is $35. Vendor registration and sponsorship options are available with listed benefits for vendors and tiered sponsorship levels.
Bib pick-up is scheduled Friday, September 11 at Mile High 360 and on Saturday, September 12 (time TBD). Same-day registration is offered on race day morning for those not registered by the deadline. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
