Event overview
The Eight Stations Ultra is a trail running event taking place on Sunday 12 July 2026. The course covers 30 miles with 3,322 ft of elevation and passes eight railway stations. The route is partially self-navigational and will be provided with a route map, step-by-step description and a GPX file. The event is fully tracked by Open Tracking and allows 13 hours to complete the course.
Course and logistics
The route starts in Whitby and finishes in Pickering, following the Esk Valley Railway Line before joining the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Line; much of the route runs alongside the railway. The surface includes mud, rocks and tree roots. There are four marshaled checkpoints with water, and two of those checkpoints will offer basic snacks such as flapjack and sweets. First aid will be available on the day. Walkers are permitted provided they can complete the course within the 13-hour cutoff. Dogs are not allowed due to the agricultural nature of the route.
Entry information: minimum age 20. Standard entry fee £67, affiliate fee £65. An optional coach from Pickering to Whitby is available for an additional £22. Entry includes a finishers medal, t-shirt, water and snacks. Trophies are awarded in overall and age-category classes. Cancellation, transfer and insurance options are detailed by the organiser.
