Eight Stations Ultra
The Eight Stations Ultra is a trail running event covering a total distance of 30 miles. The route begins at Whitby Leisure Centre and concludes in Pickering, following a path that provides 3322 feet of total elevation. Participants travel through the Esk Valley Railway Line and the North Yorkshire Moor Railway Line.
The course is characterized by a variety of natural terrain including mud, rocks, and trees. As the name suggests, the route passes eight railway stations along the way. Much of the path runs adjacent to the railway tracks, providing opportunities to see steam trains during the event.
This event is partially self-navigational. To assist with movement throughout the course, participants are provided with a route map, a step-by-step route description, and a GPX file. For safety and monitoring, the 2026 edition includes full tracking of participants via Open Tracking.
Participants must be at least 20 years old on the day of the event. A 13 hour cutoff time is in place, which allows for quick walkers to complete the distance. Recognition is provided for various categories: Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
