Event Overview
The Eight Stations Ultra is a 30 mile (approximately 50 km) trail ultra marathon with an elevation gain of 3322 ft. It follows a railway-themed route from Whitby to Pickering, passing eight railway stations along the way.
Route Details
The course starts on the Cinder Path in Whitby. It first travels down the Esk Valley railway line before joining the North Yorkshire Moors Railway line, finishing in Pickering. Much of the route runs alongside the railway tracks. The terrain includes mud, rocks, and tree roots, and is also suitable for walkers able to complete the distance within the time limit.
Logistics and Amenities
A coach from the finish in Pickering to the start in Whitby is available for an additional fee, departing from Rydale Sports Centre at Lady Lumley School. The event has a 13-hour cutoff time, with four marshalled checkpoints providing water. Some checkpoints offer basic snacks like flapjack and sweets. Entrance includes a finisher's medal, t-shirt, water, and snacks during the event.
Participation
Participants must be over 20 years old. The event offers an option to plant a tree instead of receiving a finisher's t-shirt. Dogs are not allowed on the course due to the agricultural nature of the route. Trophies are awarded for first male, first female, first non-binary, and first in various veteran categories.
