East Bluff Meltdown 20K Nordic Ski Race

The East Bluff Meltdown is a freestyle Nordic ski event held at the End of the Road trails in Copper Harbor, Michigan. The course covers a total distance of 20 km across advanced terrain. Participants encounter sustained climbs and technical descents, including the Winter Magic and Dream Factory trails. While the primary format is freestyle, approximately 40% of the course features set tracks for classic skiers.

Participants can choose between two distinct waves for the 20K distance:

  • 20 km Race Wave: Designed for individuals seeking competition and age class rankings.
  • 20 km Touring Wave: Intended for those focusing on completing the course without competitive pressure.

The event utilizes various locations within Copper Harbor. Bib pick-up is situated on Gratiot Street, while parking is located at the end of US-41. The course traverses the East Bluff area, reaching a high point overlooking the region before descending toward the finish.

Following the ski events, an afternoon gathering takes place at the East Bluff Campground, reachable via a 1.5-mile journey by ski, fat bike, or snowshoe. This social portion includes a fire and food. An evening celebration featuring live music and award presentations for podium winners is held at a local venue in the town.
