Back 9 Endurance Run
The Back 9 Endurance Run is a timed endurance event held on a 3.68 mile loop at Keweenaw Mountain Lodge in Copper Harbor, Michigan. The course mixes wooded trails, the Back 9 Trails, and paths across the lodge's historic wilderness golf course, with periodic views of Brockway Mountain and Lake Superior. The venue lies inside Keweenaw Dark Sky Park.
Event formats include team entries of two or four members and solo entries for both 12 hour and 24 hour durations. Teams must have only one runner on course at a time and must begin a new lap every hour; teams that leave the course for more than one hour are considered dropped. Solo runners must begin a new lap every two hours or be considered dropped. Pacers are allowed for 24 hour participants beginning at dark and continuing through the finish.
Runners are responsible for their own shelter, clothing, food, hydration, and outdoor survival gear. Organizers provide a warm-up shack and some food, snacks, and hydration. Required gear includes a headlamp with extra batteries, rain gear, extra socks, a warm outer layer, and hats and gloves. Each runner must enter lap times on the timing board; results use the last completed lap only. Race officials may cancel for extreme weather and may evaluate whether a struggling runner can continue. No partial laps are counted. No refunds or transfers are permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
