East Atchison's Run With the Wolves
East Atchison's Run With the Wolves is a community athletic event held in Tarkio, Missouri, to support the local high school cross country program. The event offers two distinct distances for participants:
- 5k run or walk
- 1 Mile fun run
The course begins in the parking lot of the Tarkio Activity Center and traverses the streets of Tarkio. Participants pass through Niedermeyer Park and circle around Tarkio High School before returning to the original starting point at the Tarkio Activity Center. Roads are lightly marked for the race, and volunteer field marshals along with a lead vehicle or runner assist with navigation. A water station is positioned at the 1-1.25 mile mark in Niedermeyer Park, with additional water bottles provided at the finish line.
Participants interested in meeting specific time goals can utilize pacers from the cross country team. Pacing is available for the 5k distance at intervals including 20:00, 22:00, 24:00, 26:00, 28:00, and 30:00.
Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in several age categories, ranging from 10-19 to 60+. Additionally, all children under the age of 10 who complete either distance receive a medal. Participants who register by the specified early deadline receive an event shirt and are eligible for official timing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
