Duneland Half Marathon and 5K
The Duneland Half Marathon and 5K takes place in Chesterton, Indiana. This event serves as the tenth race in the Race the Region series. The courses start and end at Dogwood Park and primarily utilize the Duneland bike trail. The half marathon course holds official certification (IN20016TDK), while the 5K course is uncertified.
Participants can choose from two distances:
- 13.1 miles (Half Marathon)
- 3.1 miles (5K Run/Walk)
The event uses chip timing with mats placed at the starting line to record individual start times. Results are provided live via text and email messaging as participants cross the finish line. All turns on the course are marked with directional signs. A time limit of 3 hours and 30 minutes is enforced for the half marathon, and all runner support services conclude after this period.
Registered participants receive a custom race shirt and a finishers medal. Awards are presented for both distances to the top overall male and female runners, as well as the top masters (age 40 and over) male and female finishers. Additionally, awards are given to the top three finishers in various age groups, ranging from 10 and under to 75 and up. Participants in both events earn points toward the Race the Region Series.
Registration is available exclusively online and remains open until the start of the races. Packet pick-up is held at a local fitness company in Valparaiso on the two days preceding the event, with on-site pick-up also available on the morning of the races.
