Dumfries Running Club One Hour Track Race

The Dumfries Running Club One Hour Track Race is a time-based athletic event hosted at the David Keswick Athletics Centre in Dumfries. Participants compete to cover as much distance as possible within a fixed sixty-minute period on a running track.

The event features two separate categories to accommodate different participant groups:

  • Novices - Open to those not targeting age-related best performances.
  • Masters - Targeted at athletes seeking official UK best performances.

The event is held at a venue equipped with an athletics track, changing rooms, toilets, and shower facilities. The David Keswick Athletics Centre is located in the Marchmount area, approximately a 15-minute walk from the Dumfries railway station, and offers parking for those traveling by car.

The race follows specific track regulations. Both races are started with a whistle. At the 59-minute mark, a bell rings to signify one minute remaining. Once the hour concludes, runners must stop immediately at their current location on the track so that a measuring wheel can record the final distance accurately. A digital clock displays the elapsed time throughout the sessions. For athletes in the Masters category, official lap counters record the distance, though runners seeking official records must also provide their own secondary recorder to verify lap times.

First aid cover is provided on-site. The minimum age for participants in this event is 17 years old. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
