Trail Ultramarathons in Sherwood Forest

The Dukeries 30 / 40 is an annual trail running event held in the heart of Sherwood Forest. The race follows a clockwise circular loop that primarily utilizes forest trails, footpaths, and minor roads. These routes are fully marked with tape and arrows, with marshals positioned at various points to assist participants.

The event offers two main distances:

  • 30 miles
  • 40 miles

The course traverses several historical sites and landscapes in Nottinghamshire. Runners pass through Creswell Crags and skirt the Welbeck Estate before crossing Clumber Park. The route also travels through farmland and near the Thoresby Estate. Participants opting for the 40 mile distance complete an additional section that passes the Major Oak.

The event is open to runners only; walkers and pacers are not permitted. Both distances have a total cut-off time of 10.5 hours, with a specific cut-off enforced at the A614 aid station. Registration and the start/finish area are located at the Walesby Sports and Social Club. Participants must be at least 20 years old to enter.

Aid stations are provided along the course at approximately 6-mile to 10-mile intervals. These stations are stocked with vegan refreshments. At the finish line, runners are provided with hot soup, tea, and coffee. First aid medics are present throughout the race, though runners are expected to be self-sufficient between checkpoints.
