Courses traverse more than 11,000 acres and pass through 16 distinct natural communities. Terrain types named in the event description include prairie wetlands and areas referred to as the Dunes of Heaven and Hell. Several sections consist of soft, rolling sugar sand dunes that require sustained effort to cross.
