Drug Free Run
The Drug Free Run is an annual community running event organized by the Union County Safe Communities Coalition. The event is scheduled for September 19, 2026 in La Grande and has been hosted by the coalition since 2012. Its stated purpose is to support local partners and events that work to prevent youth substance abuse and to promote a safer, healthier, drug-free community.
The event program includes multiple distances:
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
- 5K Timed Run
The one mile option is presented as a Fun Walk/Run with a scavenger hunt format. The 5K is offered as a timed race. The event is described as family-friendly and open to people of all ages and experience levels.
Proceeds and funds generated by the event are allocated to youth drug prevention efforts in Union County. These funds support the UCSCC Youth Council prevention activities in local schools and communities, events aimed at changing community awareness about youth substance use and prevention, and community projects chosen by the coalition to address youth substance use.
The event page notes support from local sponsors and indicates partial development under a federal grant from the Office of National Drug Control and related agencies. The organizers state that the views expressed do not necessarily reflect those of the grant agencies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
