Downtown Cartersville 5K
The Downtown Cartersville 5K is the 10th annual running held in Cartersville, Georgia on August 29, 2026 to benefit the Backpack Buddies program. The event takes place in historic downtown Cartersville and includes a 5K race plus a 1K Fun Run around the courthouse block. A support option is offered for participants who wish to back the cause without running.

The 5K is a USATF certified course, Certification #GA18034WC, and serves as a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. The start line is located just west of the intersection of Church Street and Bartow Street, facing east on Church Street at Church and Jones Street. The finish line is inside Friendship Plaza off Cherokee Avenue; note the start and finish are at separate locations. Wheelchair athletes are accommodated and must complete the required waiver before the race.
Awards include top overall and masters for men and women, an overall wheelchair award, and top three in each age category from 10 and under through 70 and over. Packet pick-up for pre-registered participants is held the day before at the Cartersville City Schools Central Office, 15 Nelson Street. Race day parking is available in specified downtown lots and a parking deck; some nearby lots are not available. The event runs rain or shine.
