Downs Freedom Run
The Downs Freedom Run is scheduled for June 19, 2027 in Downs, Illinois, at 505 E. Washington. The event offers multiple short-distance events that run through the community and finish at the local high school track.
Event distances:
- 5K (3.1 miles), running race
- 1 Mile walk, untimed
- Kids Fun Run
The 5K course is described as one of the flattest in the area. The 5K and the 1 mile walk conclude with a lap around the high school track.
Registration details and fees are provided for each event. Registration opens on January 1, 2027; registration for the 5K and the 1 mile walk closes on June 4, 2027, while the Kids Fun Run accepts registrations through the event day. Fees listed are $30 for the 5K and the 1 mile walk, and $10 for the Kids Fun Run. Participants must register by June 2 to be guaranteed a shirt.
Proceeds from the event are reinvested in the local community. Past uses include installation of a drinking fountain and water bottle refill station at Dooley Park; grants to local small businesses; support for the Downs 4th of July celebration; and support for other local causes.
Awards are given to the overall male and female winners and to the top three male and female finishers in each age group: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, and 65 plus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
