Downs Freedom Run
The Downs Freedom Run is a community road event in Downs, Illinois, held on June 27, 2026 at 505 E. Washington. The event day includes multiple distances and a separate kids run, with the 5K and 1 mile walk finishing with a lap around the high school track.
Event distances include:
- 5K, 3.1 Miles, running race
- 1 Mile Walk, untimed, walking only
- Kids Fun Run, running race
Registration for the main events opens February 1, 2026 and closes June 12, 2026. Registration for the Kids Fun Run remains open through race day. Entry fees listed for each event are thirty dollars for the 5K and the 1 mile walk and ten dollars for the Kids Fun Run.
The 5K course is described as among the flatter courses in the area and runs through the local community with spectator support along the route. Event proceeds are re-invested in the local community, including installation of a drinking fountain and water bottle refill station at Dooley Park, grants to local small businesses affected by Covid-19, support for the Downs Fourth of July celebration, and other community causes.
