About the race
The Downeast Trail Festival is a trail running event in Sullivan, Maine on October 10, 2026. The festival uses trail networks managed by the Frenchman Bay Conservancy and runs through Baker Hill Preserve and Long Ledges Preserve, with coastal and peak views toward Mount Desert Island and Schoodic Mountain.
Distances offered:
- 52K repeating the 17K loop three times
- 17K through Baker Hill, Long Ledges, Schoodic Bog and Downeast Sunrise trails
- 12K on flowy singletrack including the Schoodic Connector Trail
- 6K rolling forest trails with short but steep climbs and fast descents
The 17K route includes singletrack on Schoodic Bog Trail, the Downeast Sunrise Trail, Tamarack Lane, the Schoodic Mountain Trail, and rejoins the Schoodic Connector for finishing miles. The 52K consists of three 17K loops. Courses will be marked with reflective flagging and intersection signs; participants are advised to review course maps and download GPX files because cell service is minimal.
The event is cupless; participants must carry their own hydration. The start/finish area will provide food and drink items including electrolyte mix, water, fruit, baked goods, sandwiches, boiled potatoes, vegan quesadillas, pickles, and assorted snacks. A portion of each entry fee supports the Frenchman Bay Conservancy and participants may create fundraising pages.
The festival includes a land acknowledgement recognizing the Wabanaki Confederacy and offers free race entries for Indigenous participants. Spectating is allowed only at the start/finish area; commercial photography and drone use are prohibited without prior permission. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
