Down East Sunrise Trail Relay
The Down East Sunrise Trail Relay is an overnight team relay held on July 24 and 25, 2026. The event is presented as Maine's first and only all night relay and is billed as the twelfth edition. The course covers about 102.7 miles from the Ellsworth area to Eastport, finishing along the seawall in historic Eastport.
Teams consist of four to eight runners who run individual relay legs that range from just under 4 miles to just over 10 miles. The first approximately 85 miles follow a multi use rails to trails corridor connecting Washington Junction to Ayers Junction. The route then continues on MAP206, described as an off road backwoods ATV trail. The final miles use the paved Sipayik Trail along the Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy waterfront, then join Route 190 before the finish.
Information provided by the organizer notes route features, team size, and leg lengths. The description emphasizes night running through to the next day and the mix of trail and paved sections along rural and coastal terrain. The relay is hosted by Crow Athletics and is part of the organization’s event series in Maine. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
