Down East Sunrise Trail Relay
The Down East Sunrise Trail Relay is a team relay event held July 24 and 25, 2026. It is the twelfth edition and runs along a long route across coastal Maine, with the overall course described as covering 102.7 miles from the Ellsworth area to Eastport.
Teams of four to eight competitors share individual relay legs that take place through the night and into the next day. Legs vary in length, with stages that are generally between just under 4 miles and just over 10 miles.
The route uses a combination of trail and road surfaces. The first portion, about 85 miles, follows a multi-use rails-to-trails corridor connecting Washington Junction to Ayers Junction. The course then continues on MAP206, an off-road back-woods ATV trail, and the final miles follow the paved Sipayik Trail along the Pleasant Point, Passamaquoddy waterfront before joining Route 190 and finishing along the seawall in Eastport.
Additional event materials include a race handbook and a frequently asked questions page. The event is presented by Crow Athletics and is scheduled to take place over two calendar days in late July 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
