Down by The River Races
The Down by The River Races are held in Cambuslang, featuring competitive distances along a scenic route. The event is organized by Cambuslang Harriers and includes two primary race categories:
- 10 km
- 3 km
The route follows the Clyde Walkway towards Glasgow and returns to the starting point. The course is characterized as being fast and flat, making it suitable for those attempting to set a personal best. Because the walkway remains open to the public during the event, participants must watch for cyclists and walkers. The path is narrow in certain sections, and runners are required to keep to the left side.
Race headquarters are located at the Cambuslang Rugby and Sports Club on Langlea Road. The actual start and finish lines are situated nearby on Cambuslang Road at the junction of Clydesmill Drive.
Monetary prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in both distances. In the 10 km race, additional prizes are provided for age category winners, including Veteran 40, 50, and 60 groups, as well as Junior categories and the first male and female teams. Participants receive a goodie bag, and spot prizes are distributed. Bonus awards are available for runners who break existing course records.
Parking is not available directly at the start or finish area. Participants can park at the rugby and sports club and walk or jog to the course, or use the parking area on Clydesmill Drive within the industrial estate. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
