Don't Lose Hope: 5k for Suicide Awareness
The event is the 6th Annual "Don’t Lose Hope: 5k Run/Walk for Suicide Awareness" held on September 27, 2026 at Buttonwood Park, Rockdale Avenue, New Bedford, MA. The event is organized by Child & Family Services and focuses on raising awareness about suicide and the importance of connection and accessible mental health care. The distance offered is 5K as a run or walk.
Meeting location is at the corner of Lake Street and Buttonwood Street, behind Lawler Library by the ROTARY. Race numbers and meal ticket pick-up for pre-registered participants will take place on Friday, September 25 at Child & Family Services, 3057 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford; participants who pick up on that day do not need to register again on event day. Same-day registration is available.
All entrants receive an event t-shirt if registered by Friday, September 1, honor beads, and a complimentary meal ticket provided by Common Ground Catering. The event includes music and a backdrop with a 360 photobooth. Honor beads are used to honor a loved one and to silently indicate a personal connection to loss; different colors indicate different experiences.
Awards will recognize the top three runners by time in each age and gender division (Male: 25 & under / 26-44 / 45 & up; Female: 25 & under / 26-44 / 45 & up), top three overall male or female, and top three teams.
Child & Family Services also describes its Adult + Youth Mobile Crisis Intervention as providing behavioral health crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization services 24/7/365 for individuals of all ages, delivered at the office or in community settings.
