Dog Tag Run 2.2 Mile Operation VEST
Dog Tag Run 2.2 Mile takes place on June 12, 2027 at Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore, NY. The event supports Operation VEST, an organization that works with local partners to address veteran suicide and to honor military service.
Distances and formats offered:
- 2.2 mile Run, Walk or Ruck on a trail course
- 2.2 mile Virtual Run/Walk or Ruck
- 2.2 mile Dog division in person or virtual
The race uses staggered starts in this order: runners; runners with dogs; walkers; walkers with dogs. Dogs must be on a six foot leash, each dog must be accompanied by a registered participant, and one dog per person is allowed. Dog division participants receive a chip timed bib, an Operation VEST bandana, and a dog tag; proceeds from the dog division benefit Paws of War.
Ruck participants must meet weight requirements: 10 lb for anyone under 150 lb and 20 lb for anyone over 150 lb. Ruck weigh in occurs at the Suffolk County Veterans Run Series tent on race day after bib pickup. Ruck entries include a custom Dog Tag ruck velcro patch.
Amenities and logistics include a water stop around the one mile mark and water at the finish, limited free parking with overflow directed to the south side of Montauk Highway or adjacent side streets, guaranteed T shirt size for timely registration, and custom dog tags for all finishers. Awards are given for overall and age group placings and for ruck divisions. Proceeds support Operation VEST and partner veteran service organizations.
