Dog Tag Run 2.2 Mile : Operation VEST 2027
Dog Tag Run is a community event on June 12, 2027 at Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore, NY. The primary distance is a 2.2 mile trail course offered as a run, walk, or ruck; virtual participation is also available with a window to upload times and photos beginning June 12. A dog division allows one dog per registered participant, with all dogs required to remain on a six foot leash; dog participants receive a bandana and a dog tag.
The event supports Operation VEST, which partners with local veteran service organizations to address veteran suicide. Proceeds from entries support Operation VEST; proceeds from the dog division are designated for Paws of War. Registered participants receive a T-shirt and all finishers receive custom dog tags; ruck entries include a custom dog tag ruck velcro patch.
Event logistics include staggered starts by category (runners, runners with dogs, walkers, walkers with dogs), a water stop near the one mile mark, and an on-site weigh-in for ruck entries. Ruck weight requirements are 10 pounds for participants under 150 pounds and 20 pounds for those over 150 pounds. Parking at Gardiner County Park is limited and may require parking on nearby grass or side streets when the lot is full.
Awards are given for overall and age group placements in run/walk and for top ruck and veteran performances. Packet pickup and event-day services are provided on site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
