Dog Tag Run 2.2 Mile : Operation VEST
The event is a community trail run and walk held on June 6, 2026 at Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore, NY. The primary distance is a 2.2 mile trail course. The event offers in-person and virtual options, plus ruck divisions with backpack and vest choices that require an official weigh-in. Virtual participants may upload times and photos during a designated window.
Proceeds from the event benefit Operation VEST, which partners with local veteran service organizations to address veteran suicide. A dog division is available; dogs are registered only with a registered human, must remain on a six foot leash, and receive a chip-timed bib, a bandana, and a dog tag. Proceeds from the dog division go to Paws of War.
Registrants receive a t-shirt and all finishers receive custom dog tags. There is a water stop near the one mile mark and water at the finish. Race-day amenities include energy drink and coffee vendors, a photo booth, and post-race stretching. Packet pickup is available the day before and at event site the morning of the event. Awards are given for overall and age-group finishers, with separate awards for ruck and veteran categories.
Additional fundraising options include sponsoring a veteran or first responder and several event merchandise purchases. Terms note that registration fees are nonrefundable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
