2026 Dog Tag Run 2.2M Operation VEST

The Dog Tag Run 2.2 Mile is a trail event held at Gardiner County Park in Bay Shore, New York. The event supports Operation VEST, an organization dedicated to addressing the needs of the veteran population and preventing veteran suicide. The course consists of 2.2 miles through the park's trails, with a water station available at approximately the one-mile mark and at the finish line.

Participants can choose from several categories:

  • 2.2 Mile Run/Walk
  • 2.2 Mile Ruck - Backpack
  • 2.2 Mile Ruck - Vest
  • 2.2 Mile Dog Walk
  • Virtual 2.2 Mile Run/Walk or Ruck

The Ruck divisions require participants to carry specific weight based on their body weight: 10 lbs for those under 150 lbs and 20 lbs for those over 150 lbs. Weigh-ins take place on site. The Dog division allows participants to register a dog to accompany them on a 6-foot leash, with proceeds from this division benefiting Paws of War.

Amenities at the park include Energy drinks, coffee, Ralph's Italian Ices, and on-site post-race stretching. Registered participants receive a t-shirt, while finishers in all categories receive authentic dog tags. Those in the Ruck division also receive a custom velcro patch. Awards are presented to top overall finishers and age group winners in the run, ruck, and veteran categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
