Dirty Feet - Beat the Buzzer
Beat the Buzzer is a backyard ultra style trail event held at Stake Lake near Kamloops. The course is a loop of roughly 6 to 6.5 km that repeats every hour. Runners must complete each lap within the hour to be eligible for the next start; the event continues until the last solo runner or team remains.
Entries are available for solo runners and teams, with under six hour and over six hour categories. Teams are limited to 24 hours. A cash prize of $200 is awarded to the last solo runner standing. Sponsored lap challenges and prizes are scheduled during daytime laps.
The route uses a variety of terrain including single track, double track, uphill and downhill sections, and rocky and sandy surfaces. Participants who plan to run beyond six hours must set up in a ribboned staging area and are responsible for their own pit supplies; all personal gear and waste must be removed at the end.
The event is a fundraiser for the Kamloops Food Bank. Runners are expected to bring their own water and food; a light food station will be available at the start/finish area and hot food and drinks will be offered for night runners. Competitors receive event swag and a commemorative item when they are buzzed out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
