Desert's Edge Triathlon Series
Desert's Edge Triathlon Series takes place September 26-27, 2026 at Highline Lake State Park in Fruita, Colorado. The event is produced by the Grand Junction Sports Commission and presented by Community Hospital. It offers multiple triathlon formats on a two day schedule with packet pickup available the days before and during the race weekend.
Race options include road and off road formats with the following distances:
- Olympic road: 1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run
- Sprint road: 750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run
- Collegiate sprint: 750m swim, 20k bike (draft legal), 5k run
- Off road sprint: 750m swim, 23k bike, 5k run
The collegiate sprint is open to NCAA triathlon college athletes only. Relay teams of two or three may enter any distance; teammates tag in the transition zone. The run course includes a water station located about 1.5 miles in; sprint athletes pass it twice and Olympic athletes pass it four times. Wetsuits are permitted and water temperatures are expected in the mid 62 to 68 degree range. The event is not USAT sanctioned and does not require a USAT license. Event materials include course maps and an athlete guide. Standard race rules cover athlete conduct, helmet use, no headphones, transition procedures, and penalties for unsafe or unsportsmanlike behavior.
