Des Plaines River Trail Races
The Des Plaines River Trail Races are a set of endurance trail events held along the Des Plaines River Trail in Lake County, Illinois, with the start and finish at Half Day Forest Preserve. The 2026 event is the 14th edition and is scheduled for October 10, 2026; the event takes place on the second weekend of October.

The course runs mostly on a wide, crushed gravel trail that is described as very flat and free of roots and rocks. The route alternates through forested sections and open wetlands. Major road crossings are handled by bridges or viaducts; the longer courses include only a small number of minor road crossings: four on the 50K and 50 Mile courses, two on the Marathon course, and none on the Half Marathon course.
The Marathon is certified as a Boston Qualifier. Organizers note expected cool October conditions, flat terrain, and an even running surface that can support fast times.
