Event overview
The Des Plaines River Trail Races in Lake County, Illinois offer four distances that start and finish at Half Day Forest Preserve. Registration opens January 1, 2026. The Marathon is a Boston Qualifier. Age minimums are: Half Marathon 12 years, Marathon 16 years, 50K 16 years, and 50 Mile 16 years. Minors require parental consent and a signed waiver.

Course and support
All races use the northern segment of the Des Plaines River Trail as an out-and-back course. The trail is described as flat, wide, crushed gravel, and generally free of roots and rocks. Some sections may run through water during wet conditions; an alternate course will be used if the main course is flooded. The event is cup-less; participants must bring a cup, hydration pack, or bottle. Aid stations (water, electrolyte mix, snacks) are provided as follows: Half Marathon - 2 manned and 2 unmanned; Marathon - 6 manned and 2 unmanned; 50K - 9 manned and 2 unmanned; 50 Mile - 10 manned and 2 unmanned.
Logistics and policies
Finisher medals are awarded for all distances; additional awards include belt buckles and plaques for overall and age-group winners. T-shirts are available but sizes may be limited for late registrants; event shirts are provided only to those registered by the stated cutoff. No refunds for any reason. Transfers and deferrals are allowed under specified deadlines, with a deferral fee of 20%. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
