Des Plaines River Trail Races : Lake County, Illinois
The Des Plaines River Trail Races offer multiple endurance trail distances that start and finish at Half Day Forest Preserve in Lake County, Illinois. The event is held on a very flat, wide, crushed gravel trail that is generally free of roots and rocks and passes through alternating lush forests and open wetlands. Major road crossings are handled via bridges or viaducts; only a small number of minor road crossings occur on each course.
Distances available:
- Half Marathon
- Marathon (Boston Qualifier)
- 50 Km
- 50 Mile
All courses are essentially out-and-back along the northern segment of the Des Plaines River Trail system. The trail follows the river and may have areas of running water after heavy rains; an alternate course is used if flooding occurs. The race is cup-less, so participants must provide their own cup, bottle, or hydration pack.
Support and race services include multiple manned and unmanned aid stations with water, Gnarly, and assorted food and snacks. Aid station counts vary by distance. Finishers receive a medal and awards are presented to overall and age-group winners; event shirts are provided subject to registration timing and available sizes. Entry rules state no refunds; transfers and deferrals are allowed under specified deadlines and fees. Age minimums and course time limits apply for each distance, and the course closes at 6:30 PM.
