About the race
The Delaware Turkey Trot is a family oriented running event held on Thanksgiving morning behind the Delaware County Library, the main Delaware branch, on East Winter Street. The event includes on-site and virtual options.
Distances offered:
- 5k (3.1 miles) run/walk
- 1.5 mile run/walk
- Little Gobbler kids 0.5 mile
- Virtual 3.1 mile option
The course begins and ends on East Winter Street near the library, passes local landmarks such as The Strand Theatre, 1808 and Mi Cerrito, continues up historic Sandusky Street, proceeds down Wilmer, uses an out-and-back section on Henry Street, crosses the pedestrian bridge above Route 23, and returns to East Winter for the finish area.
Participants receive a draw string bag, a long sleeve shirt, a finisher medal, and an individual dessert. The event donates 100 percent of its proceeds to the Autism Society of Central Ohio and has donated over $200,000 to date.
Portions of the course are coned down the middle to maintain traffic patterns. Specifically, Sandusky Street from William to Wilmer will have the parking lane plus one running lane with runners on the far left lane, and Winter Street from Lake Street to Estelle Street will be coned down the middle with runners on the right lane.
