Deer Lake 5 Mile Trail Run & Kids 1 Mile Trail Run
The event takes place at Deer Lake Outdoor Center in Killingworth, Connecticut. Deer Lake Outdoor Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that manages more than 250 acres of green space and miles of trails.
Two timed trail distances are offered:
- 5 Mile trail run on the property, approx. 500 ft elevation gain
- 1 Mile kids trail run, timed course; adults must accompany runners under 10
The 5 mile course runs across well-marked trails with changing elevations and many scenic views. The terrain is technical and may include rocks, roots, and possible mud. The 1 mile course likewise follows trail terrain with similar footing and is intended for children and the young-at-heart; awards will be given to overall male and female winners in the under-12 category.
Awards for the 5 mile event include overall male and female winners and male and female winners in age groups: 0-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. For the 1 mile event awards cover the 0-12 age group, with the note that runners under 10 must be accompanied by an adult along the entire course. An adult who accompanies a runner under 10 does not need to register and may run without timing unless they choose to be timed.
Registration opens October 16, 2026 and closes March 14, 2027. Entry fees begin at $30 for the 5 mile and $15 for the 1 mile and increase in later registration tiers; race day fees are higher. T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 150 entries. Please no dogs allowed. WiFi and cellular coverage at the site is very spotty. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
