Deer Dash Trail Races - Hawarden, IA
The Deer Dash Trail Races take place at Oak Grove Park, a 433-acre county park along the Big Sioux River in western Sioux County, Iowa. The event uses predominantly single-track mountain bike and hiking trails that wind through wooded hills and prairie, with frequent twists, turns and elevation changes. Runners start near Oak Grove Lodge and quickly enter wooded single track. The 3.5 mile and 7.5 mile courses separate at about one mile, with the 7.5 mile course rejoining the 3.5 mile route at roughly five miles. The longer course will use some newly acquired park land and is intended to be approximately 12.5 miles; portions of that course are still being finalized.
All distances finish back at the Lodge where post-race refreshments will be available. The races use chip timing. Pets are not allowed in the Trail Race Series. Entrance to Oak Grove Park and parking are free; the park offers overnight camping, cabins, and modern restrooms with showers.
The event is part of a trail race series that uses a points system for overall awards. Points for each division go from 10 points for first place down to 1 point for tenth place. Age divisions include 29 and under, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, and 60 plus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
