Course, support and logistics
Both races start at the West Point Amphitheater and use paved park roads briefly before mostly single-track trail. The course ranges from sea level to bluffs and twice crosses the pass via the Deception Pass Bridge, which sits about 180 feet above the water. Trails include smooth sections and rocky or rooty technical footing; hills are described as relatively short and sometimes steep. The course will be marked with yellow-and-black arrow signs at junctions and pink/yellow confidence ribbons about every 0.5 mile. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed.
Aid stations stock water, Nuun electrolyte drink, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fresh fruit, chips, pickles, cookies or candy, and some gels; basic first aid and feminine hygiene products are available. Aid station locations include Bowman Bay and Cornet (multiple visits for the 50K). Drop bags are allowed at Bowman Bay for both distances and at Cornet for the 50K. Parking in the park requires a Discover Pass; there is no overnight parking at the West Beach lot and winter campground options are available elsewhere in the park. A post-race gathering with food, local beer and cider, and music is planned. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
