Death by Staircase Trail Running Festival
Death by Staircase is a trail running event held in June 2026 near Moreau, New York. The event uses a looped course and runs over a 12 hour period. The start area is the Overlook Trailhead parking lot by the Moreau beach at 605 Old Saratoga Road.
The course is a 3.8 mile loop that features the so-called staircase of death. The loop climbs more than 800 feet in under a mile, descends the opposite side, and finishes with a couple of runnable miles returning to the start.
Runners may enter as solo competitors or form relay teams. Relay teams have no designated order or lap requirements; team members may distribute laps as they choose. The event also offers a timed 6 hour option and a Fun Run option. The Fun Run allows participants to run between one and three laps without a fixed schedule.
Participants may run as many laps as they can within the event period. Runners in the timed and Fun Run options can choose their own start time within the open event period. Rules limit lap starts late in the event to ensure laps can be completed within the event period. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
