Event

Death by 5k Waterloo is a 24-hour running challenge held at George Wyth State Park in Waterloo, Iowa. The format requires participants to complete ten 5 km segments, with each segment starting 2.5 hours after the previous one. The course is an out-and-back on the paved Cedar Valley Lakes Trail. Race headquarters is at the Canfield Shelter.

Logistics

The event allows participants to rest between segments in a camping tent, hammock, under a pop-up tent, or in a vehicle. Organizers provide five meals with hot food, plus additional snack food and drinks throughout the event. Registered participants receive an event shirt and other event items; finishers receive a handmade finisher's coffin. Initial registration is limited to 150 participants; a waitlist will open after that and additional participants may be added if slots open.
