Event Overview
The Death by 5k is a 24-hour challenge event held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. Participants run ten separate 5k runs spaced 2.5 hours apart over a full day. The event is designed to involve physical fatigue, sleep deprivation, and running in the dark, requiring participants to bring their own illumination such as a headlamp or hand light.

The event starts and finishes near the Dogwood Pavilion at the South Trailhead within Oak Mountain State Park. The route begins on the Lake Trail, continues onto Rattlesnake Ridge, and completes a counterclockwise loop back to the start.
Logistics and Amenities
Between runs, participants may sleep in their vehicles in the parking lot or camp in a designated grass field across the road. Tent camping sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis for a fee and include access to a bathroom and electrical poles.
