Event Overview
The Dean Williams Memorial 5k Run/Walk/Crawl marks its 30th year in Shreveport, Louisiana. This annual event serves as a tribute to fallen law enforcement officers, specifically honoring two officers from the Shreveport Police Department narcotics division who were fatally wounded in the line of duty between 1992 and 1993. All funds raised through the event are donated to Special Olympics Louisiana, a cause supported by the officers throughout their careers.
Course and Distance
The course is located along the Clyde Fant Parkway, with the start line situated near the Veterans Memorial. Participants head north toward the Police/Fireman's Memorial before turning around to return to the finish line. The event provides several options:
- 5k
- Law Enforcement 5k
- Fun Run (approximately 0.5 miles)
- Sleep In Supporter (non-competitive option)
Participation Details
Participants can expect a restricted course environments; under RRCA regulations, no baby joggers, bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, or dogs are permitted. For those who register as Sleep In Supporters, event shirts are provided without the requirement to participate on the course.
Recognition and Awards
Official event t-shirts are provided to pre-registered participants, with a first-come, first-served limit for the initial 300 registrants. The event recognizes various categories, including overall male and female winners, as well as first and second-place finishers across numerous age groups ranging from 13-under to 60 and up.
