Deacon Dash for Down Syndrome
The Deacon Dash for Down Syndrome is the ninth annual 3-2-1 Deacon Dash, taking place on March 21, 2026 at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds in Winston-Salem, NC. The event combines a short Fun Run and a 5K fundraising race.
The 5K course includes an extra 0.11 mile added to create a 3.21 mile total distance to raise awareness and support for individuals with Down syndrome. The event supports the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem and aims to raise funds for that organization.
Event distances:
- Fun Run
- 5K (3.21 miles total)
Packet and t-shirt pickup is available the day before the race with details to be determined, and on race morning at the race site pickup location (Winston-Salem Fairgrounds, Gate 7). The public entry and parking for the fairgrounds are listed as Gate 5 off Deacon Boulevard with parking in the Midway lot.
The description for the event notes a brief genetic explanation used for awareness: most people have two copies of each chromosome, while individuals with Down syndrome are born with three copies of the 21st chromosome, a condition called Trisomy 21.
