Day of the Dead Series
The Day of the Dead Series is a two day running event held October 24 and 25, 2026 at the South End Trail Head of La Llorona Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico. It is presented as part of the Dead Running Series.
Distances offered include:
- 5K
- 10K
- Half-Marathon
- Marathon
- 50K
- 100K
- 100 Mile
The course is described as fast and flat, paved with a crushed gravel lane alongside. The layout is USATF certified and noted as a Boston qualifying course. For the longer distances the loop pattern is based on a 1.1 mile out and back segment repeated as needed; the 5K and 10K use out and back courses of approximately 1.55 and 3.10 miles respectively. A large aid station is passed multiple times on the looped sections, with additional hydration stations for shorter events and a table for personal water bottles that can be refilled on request.
Event services include participant t shirts and a unique finisher medal for each day. Competitors who complete back to back 50K, 100K, or 100 mile events receive a special Day of the Dead belt buckle and medal. Walkers are welcome. Pets are not permitted for safety reasons; strollers are allowed. Early start options are available for half marathon distances and above and carry specific rules, including carrying a light for low visibility. Packet pickup is offered the day before and on race days. The event states a no runner left behind policy and remains until the final finisher completes the course.
