Day of the Dead 5K & 10k
The event takes place on October 25, 2026 at Wild Runners Fair Oaks, 10149 Fair Oaks Blvd, Fair Oaks, CA. Distances offered include:
- 5K (3.2 miles)
- 10K (6.2 miles)
- Calaveritas Run 800 m and kids races (0.25 mile, 0.5 mile)
Participant packet pick up is available the day before and on race day at Wild Runners Fair Oaks. A post-race festival and expo will follow the races with community partner and vendor booths.
The 5K course begins with a half-mile descent through Old Fair Oaks Village and over the bridge, continues on a 3.2-mile out-and-back along the American River Trail toward Bannister Park, and finishes with an approximate half-mile climb back to the store. The course is entirely on paved roads and trails and is described as accessible to participants with strollers. Dogs on leash are permitted in the 5K after signing a waiver; bicycles are not allowed.
The event includes a La Ofrenda for remembrance; offerings such as photographs, flowers, nostalgic items, and foods should be placed in front of the Wild Runners store by 7:30 am. Live music, stilt walkers, and cultural performances are scheduled as part of the festival. All participants receive a bib, timing device, safety pins, a short-sleeved event shirt (not guaranteed for late registration), a finisher medal, and a coupon redeemable for one free tamale at the post-event expo.
Awards are presented for overall male and female winners, top three in each age division, top kids finishers, and a costume contest.
