Event Overview
The Day of the Dead 5K & 10K takes place on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in Fair Oaks, California. The event is centered on the theme of remembering loved ones and pets.
Distances

Course Details
The 5K race starts in Old Fair Oaks Village. The course includes a half-mile downhill start, follows a paved out-and-back path along the American River Trail, and finishes with a half-mile uphill ascent. The 10K course details are not provided. Participant Information
Packet pickup is available on Saturday, October 24, and on race day at Wild Runners Fair Oaks (10149 Fair Oaks Blvd). All registered participants receive a bib with a timing device, a short-sleeved event shirt, and a finisher medal. A coupon for a free tamale is included, redeemable at the post-event festival. Dogs on a leash are allowed in the 5K race.
Event Features
The event includes a post-race festival and expo with community and vendor booths. There is live entertainment, including music and stilt walkers. Participants are encouraged to dress in Day of the Dead outfits or costumes. An ofrenda (offering altar) is set up for attendees to place photographs and mementos to honor loved ones.
Awards
An awards ceremony and costume contest are held after the race. Prizes include gift cards to Wild Runners for the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5K and for the costume contest winners. Age group winners in the 5K receive a pair of socks.
